SQL - The future of database and the web

If you are thinking of learning SQL it's the right time to start! You can check SQL FAQ on my website. Once you understand basic concept of database and simple commands like select, insert etc. you can easily learn any database like Oracle or MySql. PHP 5.0 Beta released on July 17, 2003 has been bundled with SQLite, a stripped-down version of mysql. It means most of the webservers in the future will have one or the other SQL 92 compliant database pre-installed. Isn't it the right time to add a topic called "SQL" in the schools?

Bloglines

On July 1, 03 Mark Fletcher (developer of egroups) launched Bloglines.
Bloglines is a server-based news aggregator. With it, you can subscribe to your favorite blogs and newsfeeds. It will then track changes to those sites, making it easy for you to keep up to date with the blogs you read. You can download and install software like Feed Reader or Awasu. I have stopped installing any software on my windows machine. I use multiple machines and multiple operating systems, so a server-based solution made the most sense. There are many other advantages to using a service instead of downloading a program.

PrintScreen

Make your PrintScreen (and alt-print screen - to select dialog boxes) button work the way it ought. Save to file (bmp, png, jpg), print to printer, or copy to dumb ol' clipboard. Works in any version of windows since Win95, and it's only 95k.
This and many other useful utilities...

Web based Feed Reader

My new mantra is working Online All the Time. I have stopped using all the softwares those I need to download and install. The list includes Msoffice and my favorite feed readers like "Feed Reader" and "Awasu". I have found out the web based alternative like SNARF! http://www.tatochip.com/
If you have your own website with PHP support, you can create your own RSS Feed Aggregator page by installing a simple php script on your web server. More information is available here...

Updating blog via e-mail

Updating your JournalSpace via e-mail is as simple as sending an e-mail to this address:
post@journalspace.com
The subject line of your e-mail will be the subject line of your post.
The first line of your e-mail message contains your authorization.
If your user name is shantanuo and your PBM password is india, you would type:

auth shantanuo india

That "auth" part is essential.
After you've done that, start typing your post on the next line. Whatever you type in the rest of your message after the authorization line will go into your post. For e.g.
http://shantanuo.journalspace.com/

Collapse of Inconvenience

"It's the collapse of inconvenience," says Siva Vaidhyanathan, assistant professor of culture and communication at New York University. "It turns out inconvenience was a really important part of our lives, and we didn't realize it."

Function Exists

Unsure whether your PHP web server has the required functions installed to run a particular script? If so, use the function_exists() function to check. For example, if I wanted to see if the fopen function existed with my PHP build, I would use the following code:

(?php echo function_exists("fopen"); // Outputs 1 if exists ?)
